Why Volunteer With Us

Volunteering at Parkhaven Trust is about more than giving your time – it’s about making a genuine difference to the lives of older people and those living with dementia.

Our volunteers bring companionship, laughter, creativity and kindness to our residents and day centre attendees every day. Whether you’re sharing a hobby, leading an activity, helping in our beautiful gardens or simply spending time chatting with someone, your contribution helps create meaningful moments and enhances quality of life.

In return, you’ll become part of a friendly and supportive team, meet new people, develop new skills and experience the rewarding feeling of knowing you’ve made a positive impact in your local community.

We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds. Whether you have previous experience or are volunteering for the first time, if you’re warm, patient, reliable and enjoy helping others, we’d love to hear from you.

No matter how much time you can spare, every hour makes a difference.

  • Why volunteer?

    Why Volunteer?

Volunteering is one of the most rewarding ways to give back to your community. By sharing your time, skills and enthusiasm, you can make a lasting difference to someone else’s life while gaining valuable experiences of your own.

At Parkhaven Trust, our volunteers help create moments of joy, connection and companionship for older people and those living with dementia. Whether you’re sharing a conversation, supporting an activity or helping care for our beautiful grounds, your time helps make every day brighter.

Volunteering isn’t just about giving—it’s also about gaining. Many of our volunteers tell us they enjoy meeting new people, learning new skills, building confidence and experiencing the satisfaction that comes from making a positive impact.

  • What can I do?

    What Can I Do?

Whatever your skills, interests or experience, there’s a place for you at Parkhaven Trust.

Whether you enjoy being creative, spending time outdoors, sharing a hobby or simply having a friendly chat, volunteering is a wonderful way to make a positive difference to the lives of older people and those living with dementia.

    Don’t See the Right Role?

If you have a skill, hobby or talent you’d like to share, we’d still love to hear from you. Whether it’s photography, knitting, reading, technology, quizzes, exercise, pet visits or something completely different, we’re always happy to explore new ideas that could benefit our residents and day centre attendees.

No matter how much time you can give, every volunteer makes a valuable contribution to life at Parkhaven Trust.

  • How much time do I need to give?

We understand that everyone has different commitments, which is why we offer flexible volunteering opportunities to suit your availability.

Whether you can spare a couple of hours a month, a few hours each week or would like to volunteer more regularly, every contribution makes a real difference. Most of our volunteer roles involve around 2–4 hours per week, but we’re happy to discuss a schedule that works for you.

We’re looking for volunteers who can commit to volunteering on a regular basis where possible, as this helps us build meaningful relationships with our residents and provides consistency for the people we support. However, we know that life can be busy, and we’ll always work with you to find a volunteering pattern that fits around your work, family or other commitments.

Your time is valuable, and whether you volunteer weekly, fortnightly or monthly, you’ll be making a positive impact on the lives of older people and those living with dementia.

    Flexible Volunteering

We offer opportunities that can fit around:

    • Working full-time or part-time
    • Retirement
    • College or university studies
    • Family and caring responsibilities
    • Other volunteering commitments

If you’re unsure how much time you can commit, we’d be happy to have an informal chat and help you find the right role and schedule.

For further information or for an informal discussion about any of the above volunteering opportunities please get in touch.

Make us Your Charity of the year

  • The staff are brilliant with our friend and have to put up with quite a bit, that is ‘out of the ordinary’ because of his condition. The level of care; which I think is second to none and the feeling of love for him shows. We are eternally grateful that we were pointed to Parkhaven Trust and Parkhaven Court all that time ago.

    - The friend of a resident at Parkhaven Court

  • Thank you for your contribution in the wonderful care given to our mum. You all helped in making Parkhaven Court, mum’s home. The empathy and respect you all showed helped to make mums last years the very best they could have been.

    - The daughter of a resident at Parkhaven Court

  • Huge thanks for all your help and support over the last 18 months, not only to mum but to us as well. It made a big difference to our lives, the kindness everyone shows is above and beyond.

    - The son and daughter of a resident at Parkhaven Court

  • Thank you for all your support and care over the last two years. It’s been a pleasure getting to know you all.

    - The family of a resident at Parkhaven Court

  • Thank you all for your kindness and patience shown to our mum during her stay.

    - The family of a resident at Parkhaven Court

  • Thank you so much for looking after my father in his ‘hour-of-need’. Thank you for your help, support and professionalism, the staff are great. You looked after my dad with such care and comfort – I can never thank you enough.

    - The son of a resident at Parkhaven Court

  • I really can’t thank you enough for all your care and support to my mum. From the beginning you were all so welcoming and respectful towards my mum and myself. You have looked after her with humour, compassion and decency and for that I will be eternally grateful.
