Help People Stay Active, Healthy and Independent

Role Summary

Do you have a passion for health, wellbeing and keeping active? As a Keep Fit Volunteer, you’ll support fun, gentle exercise sessions that help older people and those living with dementia improve their mobility, confidence and overall wellbeing. Whether leading seated exercises, stretching sessions or simple movement activities, you’ll help people stay active in a safe, enjoyable and supportive environment.


What You’ll Be Doing

  • Leading or supporting gentle exercise and keep fit sessions.
  • Encouraging residents and day centre attendees to take part at their own pace.
  • Delivering seated exercises, stretching, balance and movement activities.
  • Helping set up and tidy away equipment.
  • Motivating participants and creating a positive, inclusive atmosphere.
  • Supporting one-to-one participation where needed.

What We’re Looking For

  • A warm, friendly and enthusiastic personality.
  • An interest in health, fitness and wellbeing.
  • Confidence leading or assisting gentle exercise activities.
  • Patience, encouragement and empathy.
  • Reliable and committed.
  • Experience in fitness, sport or exercise is welcome but not essential. Full support will be provided.

Time Commitment

Flexible to suit you.

Typically 2–4 hours per week, although we’d love to hear from you whatever time you can offer.

Training & Support

  • Full volunteer induction.
  • Ongoing support from our Activities Team.
  • Dementia awareness training provided.
  • Guidance on delivering safe, inclusive activities.
  • Regular support and opportunities to develop your skills.
