When Lucia Wong first joined Parkhaven Trust as a volunteer, she hoped to gain local experience supporting older people through arts and crafts.
What she found was something much more meaningful.

Lucia quickly discovered that volunteering wasn’t just about creative activities—it was about the people.
She loves spending time talking with residents, listening to their stories and learning about their lives, experiences and local culture.
One resident in particular has made a lasting impression.
Together they spent time making handmade gift cards, chatting and laughing as they worked.
“Time seems to slow down whenever I’m with her, and she even let me put my name on the cards we made together, calling me her ‘special designer.'”
It’s moments like these that make volunteering so rewarding.
For Lucia, volunteering at Parkhaven has become a welcome escape from the busyness of everyday life—a place where she can slow down, connect with others and enjoy meaningful moments that often stay with her long after she leaves.
