Governance

Parkhaven Trust is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee. The Trust is regulated by the Charity Commission and complies with the requirements of the Companies House.

It has a Board of Trustees who are also directors. They meet approximately six times a year. The purpose of the Board is to hold the Trust to account, monitor our activities, confirm policies and procedures to support staff in their work and help to develop appropriate strategy for the Trust. They also visit all the homes each month. It is the role of the senior management team to carry out the day to day management of the Trust. In addition each Home has a registered manager

The Trust advertises vacancies for Trustees in the local press. Trustees are appointed for a given tenure but can be reappointed. All Trustees have a job description, an induction pack and programme. The current Trustees and their brief CVs are set out below.

Mr Nick Avery is a qualified accountant.  He is currently the chief risk officer for the Tote.  Previously he was head of their internal audit.  Mr Avery is also chair of their pension trustees.  He lives in Birkdale, Southport.

Ms Shelagh Bradley is a qualified social worker. She was Principal social worker for adult services with Sefton social services, for whom she was also development, planning, and human resources manager.

Ms Ruth Eley is the programme lead for older people and disabled people for the Care Services Improvement Partnership (CSIP) which is part of the Department of Health. Ms Eley is a qualified social worker and was the deputy director of social services for Liverpool. She has extensive experience of working in social care with older people and people with disabilities.

Mr Tony Kneebone is a retired deputy headteacher.  He is a Governor of a local school and a  magistrate on the South Sefton Bench.  He lives in Maghull.

Ms Libby Kitt is a Registered Nurse. She was the primary care coordinator for learning disabilities in Liverpool. Ms Kitt also developed a personal health record to be held by individuals and their carers. This work had national distribution. Ms Kitt was also involved nationally to help improve the health care experiences of people with learning disabilities. Ms Kitt lives in Sefton.

Mr Eddie Knowles lives in Maghull.  He recently retired from United Utilities for whom he had worked for nearly 30 years.  He has a particular interest in health and safety and also works as a volunteer at the Trust helping to develop the new horticultural day service.

Dr Robin Philpott is a retired Consultant Psychiatrist. Dr Philpott developed the first psycho geriatric services in Yorkshire and Merseyside. Dr Philpott is renowned for the development of innovative clinical services in community care, long-term nursing care and early onset care for dementia sufferers which have become models of care nationally and internationally.

Ms Moira Reid is a qualified financial accountant. She is a senior accountant at the University of Liverpool. She is also a business mentor for the Prince's Trust. Ms Reid lives in Sefton.

Mr David Woods is the Chairman of the Trust. David is a registered mental health nurse by background and a trained psychotherapist. He is currently an associate dean at Manchester University in the School of nursing and medicine.
